That is the only onboard setting available to the user, everything else is handled automatically by the circuit. I2S input can be a single header for stereo use or dual header for mono use.
In both cases all clocks are coming from the board and buffered. In stereo mode Data goes directly to DIT digital audio transmitter. There is an onboard Optionally, external master clock can be used. Clock is split by a dedicated high quality clock splitter to one or two sources and DIT There is one extra clock output to use elsewhere in the system.
Different resistor values are used for each to match different impedance and output level requirements. Components are sourced from Mouser and Digikey. Boards have been assembled using my DIY reflow oven.
Inputs will be configured for stereo or dual mono use when assembling the board. Sample rate is tied to Master Clock and the values given are with For other clocks, use the multiplier given.
A word of caution that the clock buffers used are quite fast and can cause ringing and signal integrity issues with bad connections. As always with I2S, cables should be kept as short as possible. It is only meant for going from a board to another next to it. Measurements have been done when making sure the board works as expected but there is not much to show here.
September 6, August 6, January 7, April 8, March 16, January 5, May 3, However, W-Output XLR can be used as a general purpose single-ended to balanced converter with slight modifications; therefore, it sort of replaces Addon BalOut board I have been offering before. Positive and negative inverted signals come from W-DAC and go to an identical differential amplifier stage as in W-DAC, followed by an inverting amplifier to generate the inverted output signal. There is an option to leave inverting opamp out and just use ground as a negative signal.
This works perfectly; balanced output is about impedance balance and using equal 47R resistor to ground, this condition is fulfilled.
Balanced output usually have 6 dB more gain than unbalanced so extra gain may be useful if only one opamp is used. Assembled board comes with two opamps though, as shown in the schematics. Without external control Mute can be tied to ground and it still monitors supplies and protects from startup and shutdown pops.
This is very useful where the DAC is used as preamplifier and directly connected to power amplifier. W-Output XLR Mute is available with one opamp version where cold lead is zero as explained above, and two opamp version where cold lead is usual inverted signal. One opamp version has very slightly better noise performance but two opamp version may be a safer option if input circuit of the connecting amplifier is unknown.
Both have the same 6 dB gain. W-Output XLR boards can also be used with other circuits than Wee DAC but it is worth nothing that input impedance is rather low so the source must be up to the job. This is just a simple board providing two extra inputs to W-Input. Schematics are shown above and reference designators are on silkscreen, thus only BOMs are listed here. I may have missed something important here. If you have more questions about this board, please comment below or send an email.
