Health and Medical Care The quality of medical care in China is rapidly approaching Western standards in most urban areas. Kennedy Center Support Kennedy Center staff support teachers through the two-week, pre-departure workshop, by answering personal correspondence via e-mail, and by hosting a mid-year conference in Hong Kong.
To receive priority acceptance, applications should be received by 31 January for the following academic year. However, slots are sometimes available after this date, so we encourage all who are interested to contact us about openings.
All applicants are interviewed either at BYU or via a conference call. CTP informs nominees once they have been accepted by a host university. When a nominee is accepted, the Chinese university informs them in writing, and then prepares and forwards to the Kennedy Center the paperwork necessary to obtain a Z visa a Letter of Invitation and a Work Permit.
The Chinese university sends the nominee the general terms of a teaching contract. The nominee will eventually sign a contract, but that may not happen until they are in China. All teaching decisions and assignments are made by the Chinese universities.

Applicants who have had few or no opportunities to travel to the U. However, the program is unable to offer financial support for family members of participants to come to the U. For those participants who decide to bring their family, dependent upon program approval, the families will be able to join after December 20 of the exchange year.
Home Residency Requirement: Exchange teachers may not extend their program in the United States, and are required to return home within 2 weeks after their program concludes.

Questions should be directed to This full-time, two-year teacher preparation program will provide candidates with the knowledge, skills and support needed to develop into a highly effective teacher of Chinese.
The initial summer will entail academic coursework and pre-internship field experiences. During the mentored internship year Year 1 , students will participate in a yearlong internship in K schools, where they will begin to develop their intern teaching under the guidance of a mentor teacher and supported by MSU field instructors.
Upon conclusion of the program 32 credits, plus field experiences , they will have one full year of independent teaching experience, initial standard Michigan secondary certification with a Kindergarten through 12th grade K Chinese endorsement, and a Master of Teaching and Curriculum degree. Field experiences are site-based. Following successful completion of the initial summer pre-internship field experiences, students are required to be in a teaching internship placement for a full K school year starting about mid-August in a Michigan school district within a few-hour drive of the East Lansing area, as interns must attend courses on campus one day a week.
For the second-year residency placement, students have the possibility of remaining in their initial school or being placed in one of various school districts across the U. Teacher candidates are not allowed to seek or arrange their own placements.
